The latest information released is that the lawyer of Vietnamese billionair Pham Nhat Vuong, the president of automobile maker VinFast and VinGroup, has asked the German court to allow him to indirectly participate in a hearing scheduled on November 4.

Vuong – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vingroup Corporation was summoned by the German court to be present in the hearing in Berlin on November 4 to confront the court for a related case.

This summons was issued by the German court in the case in which the Vietnamese richest businessman filing a lawsuit against Germany-based journalist Le Trung Khoa, the editor-in-chief of online outlet Thoibao.de for reporting news related to him.

It is known that in Vietnam, Vuong often has activities and images in the media close to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam.

To Lam himself is also entangled in the law when German, Czech and Slovakian investigative agencies consider him a suspect in the kidnapping of Trinh Xuan Thanh on German territory in 2017 to bring him back to Vietnam.

Financial support

Therefore, Vuong’s relationship with To Lam who kidnapped Vietnamese former official in Germany and now heading the authoritarian regime in Vietnam – is not only of no value to Germany, but on the contrary, can cause great disadvantages to the trial process.

Vuong has hired a law office in Germany to handle the case file, he can authorize his absence from court, but this will create a bad impression when the plaintiff himself does not dare to appear in court to testify directly.

Now, the lawyer of Vuong suddenly asked for virtual presentation. This raises the question of whether Vuong is allowed to leave Vietnam or not or is this just an act of bad faith and lack of seriousness towards the court in Germany.
